Los Cabos is approximately a 2-1/2 hour flight from Los Angeles, Phoenix, Houston, Dallas and Mexico City. Add another 2-1/2 to 3 hours from east coast points. Cabo Sna Lucas is located at the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula in the State of Baja California Sur. Cabo San Lucas is approximately 1,000 miles south of San Diego, California. Cabo San Lucas is approximately 20 miles southwest of the Los Cabos International Airport. Basically, Cabo San Lucas is a city in the area of Los Cabos.
What is the legal drinking age?
The legal age to drink in Mexico is 18 years of age. It is illegal in Cabo San Lucas to drink in a public place such as, the beach but that law is not widely inforced.
What time zone is Cabo San Lucas in?
Los Cabos and Cabo San Lucas are located within the Mountain Time Zone, they also participate in Daylight savings time.
Do I need to rent a car to travel to all around Los Cabos?
You may need to rent a car to travel to other areas of around Los Cabos but not if you are staying with Cabo San Lucas. You may need a taxi to and from the airport but, most of what you will want to see is within walking distance. Although taxis are available at most locations through out Los Cabos.Los Cabos does have a public transportation bus service. The buses run all day and into the evening. Also, you can usually flag down a bus if you are not at a bus stop when they go by. They willl usually stop.
What currency is used in Cabo San Lucas?
The currency is the Mexican Peso. Exchange rates at booths and hotels are slightly lower than banks, but you may have to wait in line a lot longer. Shops and restaurants accept dollars and credit cards. Visa and Mastercard are the most widely used credit cards in Los Cabos. American Express is accepted at a few places but, Discover Card is not yet accepted.
What do you need to travel in Mexico?
To enter Mexico you need to obtain a Tourist Card (FMT). To get your Tourist Card you will need to prove your citizenship, a passport is the best bet. Mexico requires that all U.S. citizens present proof of citizenship.If you are driving, stop at the border and inquire as to the location of the immigration office. If you cannot obtain a Tourist Card (FMT) from anyone during your trip, stop at the Immigration Office in Cabo San Lucas immediately upon arrival, to obtain your visa. You must carry your valid US passport whether you are driving or flying.
Do I need to speak Spanish?
No, most people in Los Cabos speak English as well.
Is the water safe to drink in Los Cabos?
All major hotels and restaurants have purified water. Bottled water is almost always available. Although many people drink the water directly from the tap, it is not recommended. It is always best to ask for bottled water to be on the safe side.
What about Medical services in Los Cabos?
Los Cabos has modern hospitals and good medical facilities. We have a nice new hospital in Cabo San Lucas and we have some competent doctors, many speak English. Check with your hotel for the name of an English-speaking doctor, write their phone number down and carry them with you. Medical is not quite as good as in the United States but, the only thing you might notice is the the equipment here is a little outdated.
Is there much crime in Cabo San Lucas?
There is very little crime in the Losa Cabos area. It is actually safer than the United States but, this does not apply to the Mexico mainland. Most of the crime here is petty crime. To best safe always be careful.
Are the beaches safe for swimming in Los Cabos?
Most of the beaches are safe. There are a few places to beware of. The beaches on the Pacific side can be very dangerous, especially in the summer, be very careful. The safest place to swim is Medano Beach and Lover's Beach (bay side only, beware on the Pacific side).There are no lifeguards here. To err on the side of caution be careful and swim with a friend and always tell someone when you are expected to return.

Can I bring my pet?
The short answer is, "Yes you can, and chances are you will have no problems entering or leaving Los Cabos". U.S. visitors to Mexico may bring a dog, cat, or up to four canaries by presenting a pet health certificate by a registered Veterinarian issued not more than 72 hours before the animal enters Mexico and a vaccination certificate stating that the pet has been vaccinated for rabies, hepatitis and pip. A permit fee is charged at the time of entry into Mexico and Los Cabos.
Can I bring my laptop computer?
You can bring your laptop computer, you will have to contact the one of the local internet service providers to hook up the Internet for you. If you are staying in a hotel, make sure your modem will work with their phone system. If your modem does not, there is hardware and software available that will handle that part of the problem for you. If you travel much and stay at hotels you should have everything you need. If you are from Europe or any other place that uses different voltages for their plug ins other than what is used in the US, you made need to purchase additional adapters for the power cord, you could also ask at the airport when you fly in.
